Joy Anderson

As the Founder and President of think tank Criterion Institute, Dr Joy Anderson has spent the last two decades helping investors, social change organizations and governments to think differently about finance. She has shaped the field of gender lens investing, pioneered approaches to integrating gender-based violence data into political risk methodologies, and authored numerous influential reports on using finance as a tool for social change.

She also hosts the Criterion Podcast, a series of open conversations with other innovative thinkers in finance. In 2021, Criterion received a major commitment from Global Affairs Canada to develop a global system of standards for the field of gender lens investing. Running throughout the institute's work is a deep understanding of systems change and power, and a commitment to inspire and include those who don't believe they have a voice or agency in financial systems.

Hany Assaad

Hany Assaad is the Co-founder of Avanz Capital Management LLC and the CEO and Managing Director of Avanz Capital Egypt, an Egyptian asset management company and a subsidiary of Avanz Capital Management LLC, established to manage fund-of-funds and other specialist private capital funds. Hany has been Chief Portfolio & Risk Officer of Avanz Capital since its establishment in 2011, and a member of the Investment Committees of the Avanz Capital funds. He leads the sourcing, screening, negotiation of investments, and portfolio management as well as the environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects, working with fund managers in emerging markets to incorporate responsible and sustainable investing in private capital investments, and to strategically and effectively target to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals.

Hany has had a long career in emerging markets investments, including more than two decades at International Finance Corporation. He oversaw IFC’s funds business in several emerging market regions. Lisa L. K.
