Fund Overview
The Acumen Climate Action Pakistan (ACAP) Fund is Pakistan’s first climate-focused fund and largest single-sector fund launched to-date. By investing across the agribusiness value chain, the fund is driving climate adaptation and resilience in one of the most critically climate vulnerable countries in the world — a combination of extreme climate events, environmental degradation and air pollution are projected to reduce Pakistan’s GDP by 18-20% by 2050, largely tied to climate-related disruptions to the agriculture sector, which is the largest sector of the economy.
Why We Invested
ACAP is a woman-led fund with a focus on gender inclusive development and underserved small-holder farmers. The fund has a deeply integrated climate & gender lens and strong commitment to a just transition. They have integrated a gender lens into nearly every aspect of their investment strategy and approach, from thesis development to due diligence to post-investment support, and a gender-focused grant component in their TA funding will be used to promote skills development and income enhancement of women in the agriculture sector.
Women as Agents of Change
ACAP’s approach focuses on the belief that women inclusion will drive the adoption of climate mitigation and adaptation efforts in agriculture, both by ensuring they meet the needs of women in the agri sector, and because it will increase the effectiveness of these solutions. They promote gender-forward practices, and create initiatives to boost women’s participation and leadership in the sector. The fund is also aware of and working to address some of the cultural norms and societal biases that have precluded women’s involvement in more innovation/decision making capacities, to help them become effective change agents in the climate space.
